Luxury villa in Ménerbes, near Gordes and Avignon, in the south of France. A 450-m2 haven of peace situated in the heart of the Luberon, a charming mansion in an exceptional setting. Comprising the main house and adjoining duplex house, each with its own entrance and direct access to the other. 1 covered terrace: dining area with tables and chairs for 17 persons, a large private car-park. The charm of the mansion stems, not only from its origins, but also from the care taken by the new owners in renovating the “mas”. Their tasteful choice of materials, textures and decorative furnishings reflects a skilful and subtle blend of past and present designed to preserve the best of both worlds. Each of the seven bedrooms is based on a theme and decorated with restored antiques as well as furnishings and objects gleaned from fairs and markets. The living quarters, like the outside structures and fittings, are designed to create a convivial and intimate atmosphere. The sitting-room opens out onto the garden via a patio where guests can relax in the shade of its carefully preserved pillars. Inside, the vaulted walls and the floor made from local Menerbes stone induce a feeling of calm, inviting us to contemplate nature. The kitchen has been raised to give a feeling of greater space and light. This large room offers a particularly convivial atmosphere, with fittings designed to provide the ultimate in functionality. The sitting-room is equipped with a television, DVD player and stereo system, and high-speed internet access is available in the adjoining office-library area. The surrounding walls and facade of the building have been restored, yet retain the original charm of the local stone and its traces of the past. As visitors enter Mas Mouschetty, a whole chapter of the history of the region unfolds. The architecture of the house, designed to preserve the privacy of its inhabitants, is a reminder that the “mas” served as an invaluable refuge for protestant families during the French Wars of Religion. Tranquillity and well-being are at the heart of Mas Mouschetty, and the swimming-pool is a key feature. The large heated pool (6 X 12 metres and 2m40 deep), with its Californian-style backdrop and view of Mas Mouschetty, is an ideal spot to laze and bask in the sun. Visits to Menerbes are particularly interesting since it has preserved many vestiges of its past. In addition to the ramparts, we can find traces of its ancient history, including the Dolmen of Pichouno, a unique standing stone in the Vaucluse, which proves that Menerbes was inhabited in prehistoric times. Excavations have led to the discovery of the remains of villas as well as an ancient cemetery dating back to Roman times.
